Schlager Duo Amigos: A Surprise Hit Among Young Fans
Shock waves among friends as youthful spectators exhibit remarkable display of backing - Stunned Friends Astounded by the Rapid Growth of Teenager fan Base
The blue-collar Schlager duo Die Amigos, made up of brothers Karl-Heinz and Bernd Ulrich, have achieved unexpected popularity with a younger demographic - even among children: "Schlager music is on a roll, at least among some segments," Karl-Heinz Ulrich (76) comments to the German Press Agency.
This surprising support may be due in part to the duo's lyrics, resonating with today's youth more profoundly than ever before. Younger fans often fill the front rows, beltng out the brothers' songs in unison.
Originally from Central Hesse, the Amigos are known for their earthy demeanor and tackling tough social issues in their music, such as homelessness, pollution, abuse, and even acting as ambassadors for the victim support organization "Weisser Ring." However, their albums always feature a few songs for the disco floor, strictly for dancing, relaxing, or unwinding.
Music remains a stress-free affair for the Amigos. Despite frequent travel, they don't consider it burdensome. "What causes stress? Maybe someone can't open the gate... that's exhausting," Bernd Ulrich jokes. The brothers also take work in their stride, echoing Bernd's sentiments. "True stress doesn't come from our line of work. It's more like choosing between apple cake and Black Forest cherry cake – that’s a real stressor!"
The duo carefully plans their performances, turning down gigs on Mallorca and cruise ships to focus on sold-out concerts in Germany. Bernd Ulrich explains, "We have plenty of demands on our time. We turn down numerous opportunities we can't or don’t want to accept, because we limit ourselves to around 70-80 shows per year."
Their secret to success, according to Karl-Heinz, lies in staying calm, honest, and fair, while keeping the audience in mind. "We're just like the audience."
