Stuff Group to close Petone printing plant by 2027, cutting 30 jobs

Stuff Group has announced plans to close its Petone printing plant by 2027. The move will shift all print operations to Christchurch, affecting 30 jobs at the Wellington-area site. Consultations with staff will begin in the coming weeks to discuss the changes. The Petone site was acquired by new owners in November after being sold by Nine Media. Its lease, however, remains active for another year. The decision to consolidate printing in Christchurch follows a long-term strategy to cut costs and streamline operations.

Sinead Boucher purchased Stuff Group for $1 in 2020, and consolidation has been a priority since then. The company will now explore redeployment options for affected employees, including potential roles at the Christchurch facility.

The closure will result in the loss of 30 positions at Petone. Over the next few months, Stuff Group will work with staff to assess their options as the transition takes shape. The Petone printing press will shut down in 2027, with all production moving to Christchurch. The company aims to reduce expenses while maintaining efficiency. Redeployment discussions for affected workers will continue as part of the process.
