Studio responsible for 'Hazbin Hotel' is developing an animated pilot for 'Homestuck'
Get ready, fans of internet fiction! The much-anticipated animated pilot for the beloved series "Homestuck" is set to be released on Vivienne Medrano's official YouTube channel in September 2025.
Created by Andrew Hussie in 2009, "Homestuck" gained a massive following online, leading to hardcover collections, an epilogue series, and the episodic adventure game "Hiveswap". Now, the series is making its way to the small screen.
The voice cast for the pilot includes Toby “Radiation” Fox as John Egbert, Cherami Leigh as Rose Lalonde, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Jade Harley, Adam McArthur as Dave Strider, and Brandon Winckler as Karkat Vantas. Veteran voice director Richard Horvitz, known for his work on Spindlehorse's Helluva Boss, directs the voice cast.
The pilot is produced by SpindleHorse Studio, with Vivienne Medrano serving as Executive Producer. Skye Henwood is the director and writer, while Mel Shin is the Storyboard Director and Ben Jones is the Animation Director.
While the series continuation is currently pending, industry speculation suggests that if the pilot performs well, it could potentially appear on streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, following a path similar to Medrano's previous work, Hazbin Hotel.
In "Homestuck", John Egbert, a kid who receives a beta copy of a computer game called Sburb for his 13th birthday, enlists his friends Rose, Dave, and Jade to join him in manipulating reality using Sburb, a move that puts their universe in danger. The goal for John and his friends is to beat the game in order to create a new universe.
Toby Fox, who made his name doing music for "Homestuck's" animated sections, later went on to create the critically acclaimed games Undertale and Deltarune. Vivienne Medrano, the driving force behind the "Homestuck" animated pilot, recently entered a first look deal with Prime Video this past spring.
