Almaty: Graduation Car Procession Causes Traffic Violations, Potential Hazards on BAKAD Highway
A video sharing social media platforms shows a convoy of cars celebrating graduation, causing traffic disruptions and potentially hazardous situations on the BAKAD highway in Almaty region, our correspondent reports.
The footage captures several vehicles moving in a column, obstructing other commuters and obstructing lanes. Teenagers were observed sticking their heads out of the windows while the cars were in motion.
Witnesses claim the convoy not only flouted traffic rules but also disregarded basic safety measures. One driver reportedly had to rapidly brake to avoid a collision with a car from the convoy that abruptly moved into the opposite lane. Some of the cars had no license plates.
The Almaty regional Department of Police announced that the participants in the car convoy who breached traffic regulations have been recognized and arrested.
"Materials for 17 violations, including failing to wear seat belts and creating dangerous situations, have been sent to court. The vehicles have been impounded," the Almaty regional Department of Police stated.
The department also pointed out that the parents of the juvenile passengers have been held accountable for their negligence.
"We urge citizens to adhere to traffic rules and not endanger the lives and health of children. Safety is a collective responsibility!" the Almaty regional Department of Police emphasized.
The BAKAD highway, a crucial ring road encircling Almaty, plays a significant role in regional transportation, connecting essential routes like "Almaty – Konaev" and "Khorgos." It is a vital component of the city's financial and business hub status in Central Asia, with plans to reinforce connectivity through projects like the International Business Development Center near BAKAD.
