Teenage Acting Prodigy: Gus Morgan's Hollywood Dream
- Warning: Mild Profanities Ahead
Leaving School to Pursue a Career in Hollywood - Student yearns to abandon educational pursuit for Hollywood career
Jeffrey Dean Motherfcker - yeah, you heard it right - is in a pickle many big-shot parents face: His snot-nosed kid, Gus Morgan (15), wants outta school and into the acting game, just like ol' dad. "He's friggin' ready to drop school and become an actor," the "Walking Dead" star spilled the beans to People*.
The acting gene seems to run in the family, Morgan recalls a key moment when Gus was just three years old: "We took him to Hamilton. After the show, we went backstage, and he went onstage dressed like frigid Hamilton. I remember watchin' him and thinkin', 'He knows exactly what he's friggin' doing now.' He's bloody good."
Baby's First Acting Gig
Gus proved his acting chops in 2021 when he had a brief appearance as a zombie in the final season of "The Walking Dead." Papa Bear Instagrammed pictures of his zombified son, beaming with pride: "We're super proud of Gus Dean."
The Canneseries Festival in April was a family affair to remember, with not only the world premiere of "The Walking Dead: Dead City," but also Morgan leaving his grubby paws in the Cannes Walk of Fame. "It was bloody fantastic," Morgan raved. "It was George's first red carpet. They stole the effin' show. I thought Gus would leave with a three-movie deal."
Despite Gus's obvious talent and passion, Morgan's holding him back, mate. Alongside his missus, Hilarie Burton (42), and partner-in-crime since 2019, they're dead set on giving Gus a solid education.
"We're keeping him back because I wanna friggin' give him an education; his momma wants him to have an education," Morgan elaborates. Their hesitation stems from concerns about the Hollywood industry: "We want him to be really sure about his decision because it ain't the easiest path, even with nepotism involved, and the business is friggin' changin' so much."
Morgan's been in the industry for ages, and he's friggin' seen the changes: "Years ago, when I started, there were many more low-budget films. In the past 20 years, there have been so many TV friggin' shows, and now it's an effin' ghost town. Los Angeles is a ghost town."
Layin' the Groundwork for acting greatness
Even so, the parents support Gus's ambitions. Gus is about to attend an art-specialist school. "This year, we're switchin' schools so he can really focus on what he wants to do," Morgan said. "He can take courses on the other side of the friggin' camera - writin', directin', set design, film actin', and theater actin'."
Burton also hauls Gus to musicals and theater productions. Mama bear can picture her son endin' up on Broadway: "He has that kind of talent. Things I could never do, he already excels at."
