Cedric Taylor, Former Morehouse Star, joining Howard's Bison Lineup

Saying a fond farewell to their star player Blake Harper, Howard University welcomes transfer Cedric Taylor II

In a recent post on his social media, Cedric Taylor II announced his commitment to Howard University, shifting from his former college, Morehouse. This decision may fuel the rivalry between the two historic HBCUs, as the two institutions share a longstanding competition in the sports arena.

Taylor was a cornerstone of Morehouse's success, propelling the Maroon tigers to a strong showing this season. With an 18-14 overall record and a 14-7 mark in conference play, they earned the second seed in the SIAC East for the tournament, despite falling short against Central State in the quarterfinals. One of their most significant victories was against Taylor's future team during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day game.

The shocking upset of reigning MEAC Champions, Howard University, by Morehouse College seems fitting, given the alma mater of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who graduated from Morehouse.

During the MBK Day game, Taylor displayed his impressive skills to the Howard fanbase, scoring 17 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and making 2 steals while blocking 1 shot and draining 4 three-pointers. His averages of 15.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game have earned him a reputation for both solid scoring and effective rebounding.

Transitioning to a Howard University team that's full of talent but struggled this season (12-20 record with a 7-7 record in the MEAC), Taylor presents an opportunity to strengthen their roster and balance the loss of Blake Harper, who transferred to Creighton.

Harper proved to be an outstanding player throughout the season, racking up an impressive 19.5 points per game. He reached double figures in 29 of his 32 games and managed five games with 30 or more points. He also ranked second in the conference in rebounding, averaging 6.3 boards per game, and fourth in assists, with 3.5 per game. His well-rounded and dynamic play style is a boon for any team.

Howard University head coach Kenny Blakeney has consistently demonstrated his knack for bringing extraordinary players to the team. The addition of Taylor underlines Blakeney's intention to assemble another impressive squad for the 2025-2026 season.
