Struggling with an injury, Panak achieves home win
The Manchinger Tennis squad plummets from the 2. Bundesliga South. The relegation was imminent following a crushing 1:8 loss against the Regensburg tennis team last Friday. Despite scoring a 5:4 victory against TC Ludwigshafen on Sunday, relegation was unavoidable. "Unfortunately, this season concludes with a disheartening relegation, despite winning two league matches," stated team manager and coach Petr Panak after the matches. "But with the numerous injuries we've faced lately, it just wasn't enough."
The fate of the Manchinger women had been evident before the double-header, as the decisive battle against Zweirad Stadler tennis team from Regensburg on Friday was understood to be the deciding factor. In the end, however, the hosts endured an unexpectedly heavy defeat.
Demolition by Regensburg secures the verdict
The writing was on the wall in the top matches of the sixth round. Tamara Kostic lost to Denisa Hindova 2:6, 2:6, and Luisa Schruff was bested by Karolina Vlckova with the same score. Denisa Satralova was the sole Manchinger player to secure a point, defeating Nina Potocnik 6:2, 6:2. Satralova thus achieved her sixth win in six singles matches. Regrettably, none of their other teammates could follow suit. Romana Cisovska lost to Karolina Kubanova 4:6, 4:6, Natalie Salkova to Mira Stegmann 4:6, 3:6, and Marta Peric was overwhelmed by Jana Kovackova, losing 0:6, 1:6. With a 5:1 lead after the singles, Regensburg had already won. "Some of the matches were closer than they appeared," Panak grumbled. "And the defeat itself wouldn't have been so devastating if it hadn't been so lopsided."
Ludwighafen triumph insignificant in the grand scheme
The Manchinger women displayed a better performance on Sunday against BASF TC Ludwighafen, prompting excitement as the encounter evolved into a closely contested match. "Had we managed moments like this more frequently, we would have undeniably remained in the league," Panak shared. "The girls played well." While Tamara Kostic and Luisa Schruff experienced clear losses, Denisa Satralova rounded off an impressive singles season with a 6:2, 6:3 victory against Alexa Volkov, and Romana Cisovska triumphed 6:0, 6:0 against Lilly Harlos. Emma Schruff was outplayed by Charlotte Keitel 2:6, 0:6, but Sofie Hettlerova ensured a 3:3 tie after the singles with a 6:3, 6:0 win. "Despite the numerous absences, we performed well and positioned ourselves advantageously for the doubles," Panak praised.
"We're coming back stronger"
The Manchinger tennis team concluded the season in seventh place out of eight and will gotta battle it out in the Regionalliga next season. "Certainly, it's heartbreaking to have to drop from the second league due to injuries. But when your best squad members are sidelined, it's always tough," explained Panak, looking ahead: "Now we'll regroup and make a comeback in the Regionalliga. Our goal is to come back and regain our place."
