Struggling Tesla Cybertruck Owner Voices Opinion after Navigating Tough Week on Rubicon Path
Tesla Cybertruck Conquers Rubicon Trail Despite Mechanical Challenges
The Tesla Cybertruck, a radical departure from traditional SUV design, recently demonstrated its off-road prowess by completing the challenging Rubicon Trail. The vehicle, driven by Roger Davis, endured significant mechanical damage and was stuck for several days before completing the trail.
The Cybertruck's steering rack was borked, forcing the crew to tie the vehicle to a tree and park it temporarily on Cadillac Hill. Davis and his team managed to limp the Cybertruck from Loon Lake to the Tahoma staging area, a journey that took about a week, with roughly four of those days spent on Cadillac Hill.
During the attempt, the Cybertruck suffered serious front-end damage, with four inner tie rods bent up front and two rear tie rods damaged, one bent and the other suffering a sheared M14 bolt. The vehicle was also equipped with aftermarket off-road modifications, including underbody protection, rock sliders, upgraded bumpers, skid plates, and OEM Goodyear tires with a one-inch lift.
Recovery efforts involved a skilled team, spotters, and help from a Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon. Davis credited the success partly to careful preparation and the support of his team, as well as assistance from the Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon that helped navigate obstacles.
The Cybertruck nearly died with a 5% charge at Rubicon Springs, but a larger generator was able to fill the battery to 86% charge. Davis did not have to call a helicopter to get the Cybertruck out, instead, his team pulled line and tugged the Cybertruck over some of the harder obstacles on the trail.
Despite the challenges, the Cybertruck completed the full Rubicon Trail, returning safely without the need for external airlift rescue. The experience serves as a cautionary tale for Cybertruck owners considering attempting similarly demanding off-road trails without adequate preparation.
Roger Davis, the driver of the Cybertruck, claimed that the vehicle is the only one in the world that can drive with hands off the steering wheel from San Diego to the trailhead, cross the trail, and start the journey home again. However, he warns that attempting the Rubicon with a Cybertruck should only be done if one is extremely prepared.
The Cybertruck was replaced with a new front steering rack and a new rear axle while it was parked. The vehicle is now back at home after the journey, a testament to its resilience and the ingenuity of its design.
