Struggling Man Utd Draw with Fiorentina, Benjamin Sesko's Arrival Vital due to Striking Woes
Manchester United Draw Pre-Season Friendly Against Fiorentina
In a pre-season friendly match, Manchester United showcased their new £200million strike force, but failed to find the back of the net against Fiorentina. The only goal for United came in an own goal situation, with Robin Gosens of Fiorentina inadvertently scoring past his own keeper.
Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo started the match for Manchester United, with Benjamin Sesko, a recent signing, watching from the stands. Cunha and Mbuemo impressed with their attacking play, with Mbuemo providing exceptional crosses. However, the duo could not find the net, with Cunha's low shot from 25 yards deflected just wide.
United found themselves a goal down early on, but almost replied instantly. A low cross by Bruno Fernandes was met by Cunha, but his shot was deflected over the bar. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with neither of the three forwards scoring against their former keeper, David De Gea, who was playing for Fiorentina.
De Gea, who spent 12 years at Old Trafford, was notably well-positioned to make several saves during the match. He was subbed shortly before the end to ensure he finally got the send off he deserved from a crowd of more than 65,000. Casemiro and Leny Yoro were present during the match, with Casemiro contributing to the own goal by Gosens.
The game went to a penalty shoot-out, with Altay Bayindir saving well from Fabiano Parisi. Substitute Kobbie Mainoo stroked home his kick to nick the 'Snapdragon Cup' for Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's manager, stated that the team are showing signs of being a 'different team' this pre-season. Despite the lack of goals from the new strike force, the positive signs from the attacking play will give United fans hope ahead of next week's Prem opener. Defender Ayden Heaven, who needed lengthy treatment and was unable to continue, will be a worry for United ahead of the match.
The new £200million United strike force, comprising of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo, showcased impressive attacking play during the pre-season friendly against European-leagues competitors, Fiorentina. However, they could not score, with Cunha's shot from 25 yards deflected just wide, and the game ended in a draw, leaving the Premier-League's premier team still searching for their first goal of the pre-season.
