Danish Forward Casper Tengstedt Heads Back to Benfica
Portuguese football club SL Benfica will welcome back Danish forward Casper Tengstedt in the coming weeks, following his loan spell with Italian team Hellas Verona. The Italian club has opted against purchasing the Nordic player, as reported by Corriere del Veneto, due to financial constraints.
Tengstedt's loan move to Verona commenced last summer, with the Italian club initially considering the option to buy. However, the purchase price of seven million euros set by Benfica was beyond Hellas Verona's reach, leading them to respect the buy-back clause, thereby returning Tengstedt to Lisbon.
Hellas Verona prioritized the acquisitions of Cheikh Niass, Antoine Bernede, and Amin Sarr, which reportedly influenced their decision to let Tengstedt return to Benfica. The Italian club may engage in contract negotiations with Benfica for an affordable price, but Tengstedt's immediate future with the Lisbon-based club remains uncertain.
During his time with Verona, Tengstedt scored seven goals and one assist in 26 games, showcasing his goal-scoring potential. Yet, his time at Verona was marred by injury, which may have contributed to the club's decision not to permanently acquire him.
As Tengstedt returns to Benfica, questions arise about his role in the club's upcoming season. With stiff competition for playing time, there is speculation that the Danish forward might be loaned out or sold to another club. Tengstedt's contract with Benfica runs until the summer of 2028.
For those interested, Tengstedt was part of the Benfica squad that won the Youth League and made his first-team debut with the club as well. Meanwhile, Benfica and FC Porto are neck and neck in their pursuit of dominance in Portuguese football, with both teams embarking on an impressive European tour known as the 'tubarões' tour.
Casper Tengstedt, the Danish forward, is set to rejoin SL Benfica after returning from a loan spell in Serie A with Hellas Verona. With Tengstedt's return, Benfica may find opportunities in European leagues, given his impressive goal-scoring potential shown during his time at Verona.
