Yemi My Lover's Heartfelt Plea: Nollywood Veteran Cries Out For Help

Struggling Financially: Veteran Nollywood Actor, Yemi Ayebo Seeks Public Assistance

In a candid admission, veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Ayebo, popularly known as Yemi My Lover, has revealed his financial struggles despite the success of his iconic 1993 film. In an exclusive interview with Mr LilGaga on YouTube, the actor shared his struggles and accused the movie industry of letting him down.

The celebrated Yoruba actor, best known for his blockbuster film, shared that despite the movie's massive success in 1993 and its widespread popularity among Yoruba-speaking audiences, he didn't see a penny from the film's success. Yemi blames piracy and the film industry's unfair marketing practices for his financial woes.

He explains, "The movie was a hit, but I didn't profit because of piracy. In the '90s, there was no social media, so it was tough to promote my film effectively. That's when the pirates swooped in, making a killing off my hard work." Further, he claims that a war was waged against him by the marketers for self-managing the movie's distribution, leading to conflicts that continue to haunt him in the industry.

Nevertheless, Yemi's spirits aren't entirely broken, as he's still holding on to the hope that his colleagues in Nollywood would lend him a helping hand. He admits, "I need more connections in this industry to get back on my feet. The industry is all about who you know, and I'm struggling."

In the face of adversity, Ayebo has produced nearly seventeen other films since Yemi My Lover, yet none have matched the impact of the original. His call for help rings out across the industry, reminding us of the precarious nature of success in the world of entertainment.

In today's fast-paced digital world, it's disheartening to see that unscrupulous practices continue to thrive, crippling artists' careers and depriving them of their rightful due. Let's hope Yemi's cry for help sparks a much-needed change in the industry and sets a new course for fairer compensation for all artists.
