Struggling Bar in Mallorca Owned by Peggy Jerofke Faces Possible Closure?

In the sun-kissed town of Cala Ratjada on the Balearic Island of Mallorca, the future of Peggy Jerofke's iconic "Tiki Beach" bar hangs in the balance. Faced with soaring rental prices that threaten the bar's sustainability, Jerofke and her partner Steff Jerkel have devised a new plan to secure its survival.

Originally, the couple had planned to purchase a rundown hotel to provide affordable accommodation for their staff. However, the high costs associated with this venture (approximately 2.9 million euros in total) proved unfeasible. Undeterred, Jerkel has now set his sights on a more manageable project: a warehouse, already partially rented, which he intends to convert into multiple mini-apartments.

The project, spanning approximately 200 square meters, has already been approved by Jerkel's lawyer and architect. The estimated cost for the warehouse is around 400,000 euros. Each mini-apartment will come equipped with its own kitchen and bathroom, with a communal kitchen also under consideration.

The mini-apartments are a crucial component in Jerkel's strategy to recruit and retain staff, enabling him to offer affordable housing solutions that will help keep "Tiki Beach" thriving. This innovative approach could serve as a model for other businesses on the island struggling with similar challenges.

As the project moves forward, Jerkel's determination and ingenuity offer hope for the continued success of "Tiki Beach" and the vibrant community it serves. The transformation of the warehouse into mini-apartments is a testament to the resilience of small businesses and the creative solutions they can employ to overcome adversity.
