The Los Angeles Angels, currently on a five-game losing streak, are struggling in their series against the Milwaukee Brewers. This follows a four-game sweep by the Seattle Mariners, leaving Angels fans and management questioning the team's direction.

Mike Trout, the Angels' star player, has been a consistent performer, playing in 120 games this season—the most since 2019. However, the talent around Trout hasn't formed a contending team, leading to discussions about a rebuild.

In the winter of 2020, the Angels made one of their biggest investments under their current General Manager with the signing of starter Yusei Kikuchi. Since then, they haven't made significant free agent investments, with the exception of third baseman Anthony Rendon's signing in the winter of 2019.

The current strategy in Los Angeles is to rebuild through the farm system and bring in mid to lower-tier free agents. If this approach doesn't result in a contender around Trout, there could be discussions about trading him. This winter could be pivotal, as new General Manager Perry Minasian may build a contender around Trout.

The Angels' current streak of finishing under .500 for ten consecutive seasons is the longest active streak in the MLB. The Rockies and Pirates have the next longest streaks at seven straight seasons under .500. This prolonged underperformance has led to criticism of the team's leadership, with some arguing they have let down Trout for the last ten years.

Manager Ron Washington has missed the majority of the 2025 season due to health issues, adding to the team's woes. If the Angels fail to win the rest of their games this season, they will still finish with a record under .500.

The Angels are looking to capture a win on Wednesday to flip their current losing streak. Whether they can turn their fortunes around remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the future of the franchise is uncertain, and the decisions made this offseason could have a significant impact on the direction of the team.
