Struggles detailed by Biathlete as she reveals her dark period in life
Marketa Davidova, a renowned biathlon star and former world champion, faced a challenging period in her career when a herniated disc forced her to undergo surgery in March 2025. Initially, the injury had prevented her from sitting for long periods.
Despite the setback, Davidova's determination was unwavering. She made her comeback just five months later at the City Biathlon in Dresden, marking a sporting and emotional return to the sport she loves.
The victory in the sprint event in Kontiolahti, Finland, in December 2024, had been followed by the health issues that eventually led to her surgery. The back pain was persistent, but Davidova was satisfied with her progress in Dresden, expressing her hope for the future in biathlon.
The recovery period after her surgery required a week in the hospital and several weeks of rest at home. The biathlon season in question was the 2024/25 season, during which Davidova had to make a difficult decision to end the season prematurely due to her back pain.
Looking ahead, Davidova is set to compete in the 2025/26 biathlon season for the Czech national team. She will participate in IBU World Cup events, including races in Nové Město na Moravě and Östersund. At this moment, there is no information indicating she will represent a specific club team separately from the national team in major competitions during that season.
In an interview with the International Biathlon Union (IBU), Davidova opened up about her health issues, expressing her gratitude for the support she received during her recovery. Her comeback in Dresden was a testament to her resilience and a beacon of hope for her future in biathlon.
Davidova, who is the 2021 world champion in biathlon, is a shining example of the spirit and determination required to succeed in this challenging sport. Her story serves as an inspiration to athletes and fans alike, demonstrating that even in the face of adversity, one can find the strength to persevere and return stronger than ever.
