Strong quake of magnitude 4.7 strikes Hualien County
A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Hualien, eastern Taiwan, at 5:21am today, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The event occurred at a depth of 22.7km, as per CWA data.
The hypocenter of the earthquake was located 4.2km north-northeast of Hualien County Hall. The intensity of the quake in Hualien County was 3, according to CWA data.
The CWA also reported an earlier earthquake, a magnitude 3.7 quake that occurred at 12:48am. The hypocenter of this earlier earthquake was 19.7km north-northeast of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 30.9km. The intensity of the earlier earthquake was 2 in Hualien County, as CWA data showed.
No damage reports were immediate for either earthquake, according to the text. The CWA provided data for both earthquakes and even a photo of the event.
