Strong Interview: Kaveri Kapur Discusses Close Relationship with Parents Shekhar Kapur and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi; Shares Insights on Playing Role in Masoom 2

In the bustling city of New Delhi, Kaveri Kapur, the offspring of filmmakers Shekhar Kapur and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, is poised to carve out a unique path in the entertainment industry. Kaveri made her acting debut with Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story earlier this year and is now gearing up for Masoom 2, the sequel to the 1983 classic Masoom, directed by her father. In an exclusive chat with Zee News Digital, she opened up about her love for music, her foray into acting, and her close relationship with her parents.

To what extent were your parents' professions inspiring growing up?

Music has always held a spell over me. I began singing at six and penned my first song at nine, which speaks volumes about my dedication to this art. But acting was never something I envisioned myself doing. I was as shy as a gazelle, to the point that performing in school plays would prompt tears prior to taking the stage. I had no desire to engage in school dramatics whatsoever. However, my parents' profession certainly piqued my interest, and I found myself captivated by its nuances and allure. Eventually, as I embraced my personality and shed my shyness, curiosity swiftly followed suit, and my perspective shifted.

What valuable lessons did you take away from Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story? How was the overall experience?

Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story served as a catalyst, illuminating my passion for acting. Since I was a greenhorn, I learnt an immense amount from Director Kunal and my co-star Vardhaan about the acting craft. Being on set felt like a dream come true, and the camaraderie amongst the team was infectious. Kunal was particularly perceptive when it came to understanding my personality and directing me accordingly. His guidance based on my personal approach to acting proved invaluable in molding me into a competent actor.

Though Masoom remains a classic, Masoom 2 carries a hefty responsibility. Do you feel the pressure of living up to expectations?

Certainly, I am mindful of the pressure and the weight of the responsibility that Masoom 2 demands. It is a tad intimidating, but I have faith in my team and their unparalleled expertise in their respective fields. The more I learn from them, the better prepared I feel to tackle this challenge head-on. I am also acutely aware of the importance of staying composed and avoiding overthinking, as doing so often results in blocked creative flow.

Could you share some insights about your bond with your parents?

My bond with both my parents is robust, but distinct in nature. My relationship with my mother is traditional and nurturing, while my bond with my father has evolved into a friendship. We share similar interests and sensibilities, making it easier for us to connect and understand one another on a deeper level.

Given your rich musical background, are you planning to delve deeper into music in the future?

Without a shadow of a doubt, music will continue to be my first love. Songwriting has always been a means for me to explore myself, the world, and my creativity. Music offers me a safe haven where I can be my most authentic self, and I have no intention of abandoning this passion. The balance between music and acting is something I'm still figuring out, but I am confident that both these creative pursuits will find a harmonious coexistence in my life.
