Strong Bond Between Vietnam and Laos Essential for Mutual National Progress and Defense: President's Perspective
Vietnam and Laos are strengthening their defense cooperation, focusing on strategic consultation, military training, officer development, and joint activities. This was highlighted during an official visit to Vietnam by Lieutenant General Vongsone Inpanphim, Lao Deputy Minister of National Defence and Director of the General Department of Politics of the Lao People’s Army, in August 2025.
During the visit, Vietnamese State President Lương Cường praised these efforts as pillars of bilateral ties and essential for mutual national defense and development. The two countries' defense ministries and their respective Departments of Politics cooperate closely, with a focus on strategic consultation, military training, and the development of officers to strengthen political and military ties.
Joint activities include border defense exchanges and the repatriation of the remains of fallen soldiers and experts, reflecting deep mutual respect and historical solidarity. Vietnam reaffirms its commitment to working alongside Laos to protect revolutionary achievements and ensure peace, stability, and development for both nations.
Both militaries are urged to strengthen cooperation in building politically strong armed forces, consolidating ideological foundations, and maintaining the Party’s absolute control over the armies. Luong Cuong called for stronger communications work to raise public awareness of the history and significance of the special ties between Vietnam and Laos.
Vongsone Inpanphim affirmed that the Lao People's Army will always stand shoulder to shoulder with its Vietnamese counterpart to safeguard both nations and nurture their great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation. He voiced his deep appreciation for Vietnam's steadfast assistance to the Lao State and armed forces.
Defense collaboration is a key component of the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Laos, according to Luong Cuong. He underlined Vietnam's appreciation for Laos's support during past struggles for national liberation and current efforts for national development and defense. The meeting took place in Ha Noi, Vietnam.
The visit of Vongsone Inpanphim to Vietnam is scheduled from August 10 to 14. Luong Cuong thanked the Lao Party, Government, military, and people for facilitating the search and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts. This cooperation is crucial for the cause of national construction and defense in both countries.
Thus, Vietnam-Laos defense relations are characterized by close strategic alignment, practical military collaboration, and a sustained commitment to joint defense and political work, underpinning their special solidarity and partnership. No significant conflicting information found in the search results; the cooperation appears to be robust and ongoing.
