In a surprising turn of events, Portuguese striker André Silva has left RB Leipzig to join FC Elche in the Spanish first division. The transfer, announced by Leipzig club, marks a significant shift for the 29-year-old footballer.
After expressing interest in signing Silva, Werder Bremen unfortunately lost the transfer battle. The Portuguese striker, who previously spent the season partly on loan at Real Sociedad and Werder Bremen, preferred a move back to Spain.
Silva's transfer fee is estimated to be around €2.5 million, including add-ons. Some sources specify an initial fee of €1 million with an additional €1.5 million in add-ons, while others suggest a collective fee of €2.5 million. Regardless, the fee represents a significant decrease from the €23 million Leipzig paid for Silva originally from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Silva has signed a contract with FC Elche until 2026, with an option for an additional year. This move is expected to bolster Elche's roster as they prepare for their La Liga campaign starting in August 2025.
It's important to note that RB Leipzig, a German football club playing in the Bundesliga, will no longer be home to Silva. Instead, he will be joining FC Elche, a newly promoted team in the Spanish first division and a Bundesliga rival of Werder Bremen.
