Striker of Newcastle United has been absent for ELEVEN matches, dealing a significant setback to manager Eddie Howe.
Yoane Wissa's move to Newcastle United was confirmed just minutes before the 9pm deal sheet deadline, but the forward's arrival at St. James' Park required additional time to be officially sealed. Unfortunately, Wissa's tenure at Newcastle has been cut short due to a knee injury he sustained while on international duty with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The forward will miss 12 of Newcastle's 26 games across all competitions since his £55 million signing from Brentford. Wissa's injury will likely keep him out of the upcoming Premier League matches, but he is not suspended for Champions League games and could be available for those fixtures.
Among the matches Wissa will miss are the Premier League clashes against Arsenal, Bournemouth, and rivals Manchester City, as well as the League Cup encounter with Bradford City on September 24. He will also miss Champions League ties with Barcelona and Union Saint-Gilloise.
Manager Eddie Howe has provided a timeline for Wissa's return, stating he should be back after the next international break. However, the return date could be flexible and subject to change. Wissa is unlikely to go on international duty with DR Congo in October, but his participation at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) could cause him to miss additional games between December and January.
Despite Wissa's absence, Newcastle United will face challenging fixtures ahead. The Magpies will take on Barcelona in Champions League action on this Thursday and will be without their new signing for the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City on September 28.
Eddie Howe will have to rely on the remaining squad members to fill the void left by Wissa's injury. The Magpies' next Premier League match is against Bournemouth on September 21, and Wissa's absence will surely be felt in that derby.
In the meantime, fans will eagerly await Wissa's return, hoping he can make a swift recovery and contribute to Newcastle's promising Champions League campaign. The Magpies currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League table and will be eager to maintain their strong form in Wissa's absence.
