Strike Details: Israeli Airstrike Targets Tehran's Congested Intersection

In the heart of Tehran, at 3 PM local time, a pair of midnight shocks echoed through the residential district of Tajrish, shaking the tranquility of the city's northern uprising. An Israeli airstrike tore apart a six-story edifice, and another sent waves through the Tajrish intersection, scattering the bustling crowd and snapping a main water pipeline.

The struck building housed a bank and a local mosque organization, with its upper three floors collapsing in the aftermath. The intersection strike inundated the area with water for hours, damaging cars and trapping residents in their vehicles. Harrowing videos circulating on social media portrayed cars struck by the blast, crumpled debris scattered across the intersection, and desperate bystanders assisting the trapped.

The Israeli Air Force claimed credit for targeting institutions linked to Iran's elite Quds Force, spreading their attacks across ten locations in Tehran. The Quds Force, an elite division of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, is known for its external operations. However, the precise target of the strike at the intersection remains ambiguous.

Iranian authorities announced that the air strikes claimed 17 lives, among them an infant, a teenager, and a pregnant woman. Additionally, 46 individuals were wounded. One of the victims widely discussed on social media was graphic designer Saleh Bairami, who was withered in the blast just moments after halting at the Tajrish intersection.

Israel's militaryFollowing the strikes, the Israeli military allegedly released a video affirming that they had "precisely struck command centers" affiliated with the Quds Force of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian military. A map included in the video illustrated two targets in Tajrish, aligning with the blast sites at the intersection on June 15.

Iranian Health Ministry spokesman, Hossein Kermanpour, reported that since the Israeli air strikes commenced on Friday, 224 people have been killed, and 1,227 have been injured. He additionally mentioned on a public platform that 90% of the casualties were civilians. No updates have been given since the tragic Sunday events.

The Tajrish intersection, a well-known commercial hub [3][5], was only one of multiple iconic areas targeted in these series of attacks. The airstrikes continued their assault on the thriving Quds Square, Shariati Avenue, and Valiasr Square, all essential nodes in the city. Consequently, these attacks seems to focus on urban sites potentially connected to Iranian military infrastructure, weapons facilities, and vital urban hubs, as part of an "extensive" onslaught by Israel on strategic locations in Tehran [1][3]. With such wide-reaching and indiscriminate attacks, civilians continue to bear an unfair burden of collateral damage in the ongoing conflicts.

  1. The devastating aftermath of the Israeli air strikes in Tehran has left the urban hub of Tajrish, a bustling commercial center, in ruins, raising concerns about the safety and health of civilians caught in the crossfire.
  2. The escalating war-and-conflicts between Israel and Iran have spilled into the political arena, as international entities express growing alarm at the indiscriminate attacks on general-news implicating civilian casualties, with anxieties also heightening in the sports community regarding peace and stability in the region.
  3. With Iranian media reporting the deaths and injuries of over 200 civilians since the air strikes commenced, concerns about the well-being and safety of innocent individuals have triggered a wave of intervention in the global arena, as leaders weigh in on the ethics of waging war-and-conflicts in populated areas.
