Investment Opportunities Abound for Vietnamese Businesses in Cambodia's Northeast

Vietnamese companies are finding significant investment opportunities in Cambodia's northeastern region, particularly in the rubber sector, agro-processing, eco-tourism, and airport projects. The provinces of Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, and Kratie have warmly welcomed Vietnamese investors and offer special investment promotion programmes during 2025-2028 to encourage expansion.

The rubber sector has already seen the establishment of companies like the Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG) in Ratanakiri, contributing to local tax revenues and social welfare. Local authorities highly value these investors and continue to facilitate investment growth in this sector.

Agro-processing presents opportunities to develop agriculture-based processing industries, leveraging local resources and contributing to value addition and employment.

Ratanakiri province highlights eco-tourism potential, with authorities promoting this sector as part of sustainable regional development, encouraging Vietnamese investments to tap into natural and cultural tourism assets.

A planned airport in the northeastern region aims to improve connectivity and is a key infrastructure project with investment potential for Vietnamese businesses supporting transport and related services.

Cambodian provincial governments provide access to special incentives, including expedited legal procedures especially for Vietnamese investors of Vietnamese origin, to foster bilateral cooperation and economic integration.

Vietnam and Cambodia maintain strong ties, facilitating these investments through regular high-level meetings, business forums, and support from diplomatic missions, ensuring a stable and supportive environment.

A recent delegation led by Ambassador Vũ, including representatives from the VRG, THACO AGRI, and the Vietnam-Cambodia Business Association (VCBA), visited the region to strengthen economic ties between Vietnamese businesses and the northeastern region.

Mondulkiri Governor Thang Savun expressed appreciation for the tax contributions and social welfare efforts of Vietnamese rubber firms. The delegation's meetings with local authorities and enterprises were aimed at discussing investment opportunities and promoting legal compliance and social integration.

Ambassador Vũ called for expedited legal documentation for people of Vietnamese origin, likely aimed at facilitating the integration of the Vietnamese community in Cambodia. Ratanakiri's open-door policy towards all investors was reiterated by Governor Nhem Sam Oeun.

The delegation held meetings with provincial leaders, the Khmer-Vietnam Association in Cambodia (KVA) and local Vietnamese enterprises. Ambassador Vũ urged continued support for business expansion and access to investment incentives under Cambodia's special programme to promote investment in the northeastern region during 2025-28.

In summary, Vietnamese businesses benefit from government incentives, strong diplomatic support, and promising sectoral opportunities in Cambodia’s northeast, encompassing rubber plantations, agro-processing industries, eco-tourism ventures, and a strategic airport infrastructure project.
