Strengthening Economic Ties: Kazakhstan-Turkey Agreement Enhancements
Kazakhstan and Turkey are strengthening their economic ties with a series of significant investments and joint projects. During an official visit to Turkey on July 29, 2025, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Tiryaki Holding, a Turkish company specialising in agricultural projects. The meeting resulted in the signing of an investment agreement worth approximately 160 billion tenge (around USD 320 million).
The agreement focuses on the deep processing of grain and legumes such as wheat and peas. Tiryaki Holding plans to construct a high-tech agro-industrial complex in Kazakhstan with a capacity to process 250,000 tons of wheat and 80,000 tons of peas annually. This investment is part of broader Kazakh-Turkish cooperation, which also covers logistics infrastructure. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed for the establishment of three logistics centers in Shymkent, Astana, and Almaty, with an estimated investment of USD 75 million.
The growing bilateral trade between the two countries, currently around USD 300 million, is a testament to the strategic cooperation priorities between them. This investment aligns with these priorities, as emphasised during President Tokayev's official visit to Turkey.
Elsewhere, Nurlan Zhakupov, chairman of the Samruk Kazyna National Wealth Fund, announced a joint venture between Kazpost and Türkiye's S Sistem Lojistik. This joint venture is constructing a transport and logistics hub at Aktobe airport, scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026.
In addition, President Tokayev held talks with Orzax Group, a company developing multidisciplinary hospitals in Turkistan, Astana, and Petropavl. Orzax Group also plans to invest $40 million in a manufacturing facility in Kazakhstan, creating 500 permanent jobs.
Meanwhile, YDA Holding, a company developing multidisciplinary hospitals, plans to expand its industrial park and build a sandwich panel manufacturing plant in Astana, as well as a multimodal transit hub in Aktau.
As of now, 18 of the 23 joint projects launched since 2018 are already complete. Five are currently under implementation. These investments and projects are reinforcing Kazakhstan's agro-industrial sector modernization with Turkish partnership.
