Cranberry Township Urges Residents to Conserve Water Amidst Drought Conditions

Due to the prolonged lack of rainfall and high temperatures in Butler County, Cranberry Township is asking its water customers to voluntarily reduce water usage [1][2][3][4]. Although no formal drought emergency has been declared, the township is taking proactive measures to conserve water and ensure reliable service for all residents.

The primary water conservation practices recommended include limiting outdoor watering to early morning or evening hours (5 p.m. to 9 a.m.) to reduce evaporation, using watering methods that minimize waste, and postponing nonessential water uses such as power washing paved surfaces, filling decorative fountains, or washing vehicles at home [1][2][4].

Residents are also encouraged to reuse water when possible, such as repurposing kiddie pool water for gardening or landscaping, taking shorter showers, and running only full loads in dishwashers and washing machines [1][2][4].

In addition to these measures, Cranberry Township has temporarily closed the Water Feature at Armstrong Great Lawn and suspended irrigation there and in Township parks as part of its conservation efforts [1][2][4].

Jason Dailey, Interim Utilities Director, emphasized the importance of working together to reduce unnecessary water use. He stated that by doing so, they can ensure continued reliable service for all residents and protect the system [1][2].

For more comprehensive guidance on water conservation and drought preparedness, Cranberry Township recommends consulting the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s resources at www.dep.pa.gov/Drought or contacting their Customer Service Center [1][2][3].
