Hendrik Streeck, a renowned virologist hailing from Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia, shares an unconventional yet heartwarming Christmas tradition with his spouse, Paul Zubeil. The duo eschews extravagant gifts, setting a 50 euro budget to prevent the hunt for presents from spoiling the pre-Christmas cheer.

"We don't always stick to our budget, but it shouldn't be anything too grand," shared Streeck with the German Press Agency. This long-standing agreement has kept their holiday season free from the stress associated with gift shopping.

Streeck's affection for Christmas extends far beyond the fiscal aspect, as he cherishes the beauty of the festive lights, markets, and the enchanting music that permeates the air. The pair usually decorates their Christmas tree early in December, allowing them to enjoy the spirit of the season for an extended period.

As they usher in the holiday spirit, Streeck and Zubeil take turns cooking delectable treats. They typically indulge in fondue on Christmas Eve, followed by a stuffed turkey and game on the subsequent two days.

This Christmas, Streeck and his husband are navigating the challenging prospect of celebrating their first holiday without Streeck's father, who tragically passed away in April. Despite the sadness, they will undoubtedly create cherished memories, honoring their dear loved one.
