Disney+ is set to make a significant impact on the European sports landscape, with the announcement that it will be streaming La Liga matches in the UK and Ireland during the 2025/26 season.

The streaming service will exclusively broadcast the weekly Saturday night fixture, traditionally kicking off at 8:00pm or 8:30pm, marking a new broadcasting era for La Liga in the region. Meanwhile, Premier Sports will show over 340 matches throughout the season as the primary La Liga broadcaster in the UK and Ireland.

This arrangement is a major step for Disney, as it aims to offer the thrill and excitement of every LaLiga match to its customers across Europe at no extra cost. The move also marks another step in Disney's growth trajectory in the live sports space.

Disney+ has already secured rights to show LaLiga matches in Denmark and Sweden, and these rights will extend until the end of the 2026-27 season. The company's SVP and Country Manager for Nordic & Baltic, Hans van Rijn, emphasized the company's commitment to creating a high-quality production for players, fans, and Disney+ customers.

In addition to La Liga, Disney+ will also be streaming the Uefa Women's Champions League, starting from the 2025-26 season and lasting until 2029-30. The company sees the Uefa Women's Champions League as "the very best in football performance, dedication, and passion."

The expansion of Disney's sports offerings is not limited to La Liga and the Uefa Women's Champions League. Five English players, including Jude Bellingham, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Marcus Rashford, are set to feature in LaLiga this season, adding to the diverse sports content that Disney+ will be offering.

Hans van Rijn stated that Disney's mission is to super serve the communities and fans passionate about the game, while broadening the audience for the tournaments in Denmark and Sweden, building a new generation of fans and supporters.

The addition of LaLiga to Disney's sports offerings may contribute to the growth of women's football and LaLiga audiences across Europe. Disney and LaLiga have been contacted for comment regarding the partnership.
