Top-Performing Teams Battle for National Sevens Circuit Lead
The 2025 National Sevens Circuit in Kenya is shaping up to be an exciting competition, with KCB Rugby and Strathmore Leos leading the pack. After two legs of the competition, these two teams are tied at the top with 41 points each.
KCB Rugby kicked off the circuit with a dominant performance at the Driftwood 7s in Mombasa, where they narrowly defeated Strathmore Leos in the final with a score of 15-14. This victory marked KCB's reclaiming of the title they last won in 2019 and their fourth success at that venue (2012, 2013, 2019, 2025).
Strathmore Leos, however, bounced back strongly from their defeat at Driftwood. They delivered an impressive performance at the Prinsloo 7s, where they defeated KCB in the final to level on points in the standings.
Nakuru RFC and Menengai Oilers are close behind with 28 points each. Nakuru RFC has consistently reached the quarter-finals, while Menengai Oilers have managed back-to-back top-five finishes.
Kabras RFC is fifth with 27 points, having a mixed run with a third place in Mombasa but an early exit in Nakuru. Catholic Monks are sixth with 26 points after securing a surprise third-place finish at Prinsloo Sevens.
Kenya Harlequin are seventh with 24 points after back-to-back sixth-place finishes. Daystar Falcons have 13 points and are ahead of Mwamba and MMUST.
Newcomers Zetech Oaks managed to secure 7 points in their debut at Prinsloo Sevens, while Nondies have 15 points, placing them above Daystar Falcons.
The Christie Sevens, scheduled to take place in Nairobi, will be the next opportunity for teams to break the deadlock at the top and gain momentum in the race for the overall title. The competition promises to be intense, with all teams eager to secure valuable points and maintain their positions in the standings.
