The cast of Stranger Things has revealed their love for 1980s music, shaped by years of filming the hit series. Noah Schnapp and Caleb McLaughlin, who play Will Byers and Lucas Sinclair, even admit they feel like they grew up in the decade. Yet, despite their appreciation for the era’s tracks, one iconic song has worn out its welcome—Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill.

The 1985 single Running Up That Hill was written by Kate Bush as the lead track from her album Hounds of Love. Decades later, the song surged back into popularity after featuring prominently in Stranger Things Season 4. But its viral success on TikTok has left Schnapp and McLaughlin exhausted by its constant replay.

Both actors still enjoy other 1980s hits, including The Clash’s Should I Stay or Should I Go. Schnapp’s personal favourites include Toto’s Africa and The Police’s Every Breath You Take, while McLaughlin keeps an entire ‘80s playlist on his phone.

Meanwhile, filming for Stranger Things Season 5 is nearly complete. The first four episodes are already available, with episodes 5 through 7 set for release on December 26. The series finale will then air on January 1, 2026, marking the end of the show’s long run.

For Schnapp and McLaughlin, the show’s influence has made 1980s culture a defining part of their lives. Yet, as the final season approaches, even the most beloved tracks of the era—like Running Up That Hill—have lost some of their charm. The actors now look ahead to the series’ conclusion, set to air in early 2026.
