The relationship between the United States and Brazil is at a low point not seen in decades, with tensions escalating over recent U.S. sanctions and tariffs imposed on Brazil.
The turning point came in August 2025, when President Trump levied a 50% tariff on most Brazilian goods, including a designation of Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes for sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act.
