Thirty years ago, at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, two aspiring actors named Adam Scott and Paul Rudd crossed paths. This was the beginning of a friendship that would span decades, as both men embarked on parallel careers in Hollywood.
In an interview on the latest episode of Entertainment Weekly's, The Awardist podcast, Scott shared his memories of Rudd's sudden rise to fame. He recalled the campus buzzing about Rudd's emerging success, particularly after landing a Nintendo commercial and the iconic role in Clueless (1995).
"Everyone believed Rudd was going to explode," Scott said, finding it "crazy" that one of his friends became famous overnight. It wasn't until the year after he graduated that Scott discovered the extent of Rudd's popularity.
Rudd's breakout role was as Josh in Clueless, opposite Alicia Silverstone. This was followed by notable appearances in Friends and Romeo + Juliet. His early success set him on a path to stardom, including his later Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Ant-Man.
Scott, meanwhile, found his early career highlights in films like The Aviator (2004) and Step Brothers (2008), with more prominent recognition coming from TV shows such as Party Down and Parks and Recreation. They eventually appeared together in the comedy film Our Idiot Brother (2011) and on Parks and Recreation.
Their friendship was cemented when Rudd returned to their school to present an award at Scott's graduation ceremony. This marked the beginning of their lasting friendship.
