Stormy Weather Predicted: Potential Heavy Downpours in Arunachal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu; Mild Showers Anticipated in Delhi NCR

As the monsoon season continues its active but variable course across India, several regions are bracing for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for Northeast India, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, with potential flood risks and thunderstorm activity in these areas.

In Northeast India, states such as Assam and Meghalaya are expected to experience isolated extremely heavy rainfall, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers predicted through mid-August. Uttarakhand, too, is forecast to see isolated extremely heavy showers on the 13th, with heavy to very heavy rainfall continuing up to the 17th. Districts like Uttarkashi are expected to experience continuous rainfall, with increased intensity including thunder and lightning.

Himachal Pradesh is braced for scattered heavy showers starting from the 7th, with the intensity increasing from the 13th to 17th, when continued heavy rainfall and some isolated very heavy rain is forecast. Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, is expecting widespread heavy rains, with flood threats as major rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna, may breach their banks.

A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is contributing to these weather patterns, with the monsoon proposing weak conditions in certain regions. Rainfall is expected to impact celebrations around Independence Day (15 August) and Janmashtami (16 August), potentially causing disruptions.

Residents in regions expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall are advised to stay alert for potential waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides. Farmers are encouraged to take protective measures for their crops and avoid fieldwork during intense rainfall or lightning.

Other regions expecting significant rainfall include Marathwada in Western India on the 8th, Konkan and Goa on the 8th, 12th, and 13th, and Madhya Maharashtra on the 8th. East and Central India regions, including Bihar, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Sikkim, are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the week, with specific dates for very heavy rainfall in Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

The IMD also advises residents in Delhi NCR to expect high humidity levels, particularly during the day, with only light rain or drizzles expected during the evenings. Temperatures are expected to remain above normal until the weekend.

Travelers are urged to check local weather updates before planning outdoor activities to ensure safety and avoid disruptions. Stay informed, stay safe, and let's navigate these weather challenges together.
