Stormy weather heading to Turkey as temperatures cool down
As we approach the weekend of August 1-3, 2025, authorities in Turkey are urging residents to take precautions as they warn of localized flooding, strong winds, and potential hail.
According to the latest weather forecast, widespread showers are expected across Türkiye during these days. Istanbul, however, will remain partly cloudy on August 1, with short-lived showers on August 2-3. Despite the drop, temperatures in the southeastern provinces will remain above seasonal norms.
The heaviest rainfall is expected on August 1 evening in Ankara, Bolu, southern Eskişehir, and northern Konya. Strong northerly winds of 40-70 kilometers per hour will affect the Marmara, Aegean coasts, parts of the Black Sea, and Central Anatolia. The capital Ankara will experience heavy thunderstorms with possible hail from August 1 evening.
Thunderstorms are also expected in eastern Marmara, inland Aegean, Central Anatolia, the Black Sea region, and the interior Mediterranean over the next three days. A 3-5 degrees Celsius drop in temperature is expected to accompany the rains in the western and central regions.
In contrast, the weather forecast for Istanbul during the same weekend indicates warm temperatures with scattered clouds and no significant rain expected. The temperatures are likely to remain around the mid to high 80s Fahrenheit (about 30°C), with clear or partly cloudy skies.
The western province of İzmir will remain dry with high temperatures between 34-36 degrees Celsius. Southeastern Anatolia will remain largely sunny. In the southeastern provinces of Türkiye, temperatures will fall by 4-5 degrees Celsius. Cooler conditions will first be felt in Türkiye's western and central regions from August 1.
Residents are advised to stay informed and follow the advice of local authorities regarding weather-related precautions. For a more precise short-term forecast including hourly rain probability, consulting a local weather service closer to the date is recommended.
The environmental science community is anticipating the potential impact of heavy rainfall and strong winds, particularly in Ankara, Bolu, southern Eskişehir, and northern Konya, on local ecosystems during the evening of August 1, 2025. Additionally, the weather forecast predicts a drop in temperatures in the western and central regions of Türkiye, which could influence the local climate and weather patterns in the days following August 1.
