Northeastern regions preparing for shifts in weather with possibility of rain showers and thunderstorms - Stormy weather developing in the northern regions
The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a forecast for unsettled weather conditions across the north of Germany, with thunderstorms expected from Thursday through the weekend.
Today, the 16th of July, the weather in the northern regions, including Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, is mostly dry and partly sunny. Temperatures are expected to range between 22 and 25°C, dropping to around 20°C on the islands. A light breeze will blow, becoming moderate at times along the coast. However, no thunderstorms are expected today.
Overnight into Thursday, the weather will remain mostly cloudy with further showers from the north. The temperature will drop to about 14°C on the mainland and 17°C on the islands.
On Thursday, the weather will become more unsettled with increasing showers and thunderstorms expected in the northern regions. The temperatures will range around 21 to 23°C, with strong cloud cover. There is also a possibility of localized heavy rain and thunderstorms. The night will be cooler, with temperatures falling to about 14 to 17°C.
Friday will see more showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly near the coastal areas of Schleswig-Holstein. The temperatures will reach around 23°C on the mainland and up to 20°C on the islands. The showers are expected to subside overnight.
The highlight of the weekend weather forecast is the thunderstorm front advancing from the west on Saturday afternoon. This front may bring widespread thunderstorms, some potentially severe, especially in western parts extending eastward. The temperatures will climb to summer-like highs of about 27 to 32°C. In the Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein region, a thunderstorm front is likely passing through during the afternoon and evening hours.
In summary, thunderstorms are forecast mainly from Thursday night through the weekend, with increasing intensity and a significant thunderstorm front arriving by Saturday afternoon in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. It is advisable for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions during these weather events.
The Commission shall be assisted by the Member States in the implementation of this weather regulation, especially in forecasting and preparing for potential weather-related emergencies, such as the approaching thunderstorm front across the north of Germany from Thursday through the weekend. It should be noted that the weather conditions in the northern regions on the 16th of July were mainly dry and partly sunny, with no thunderstorms expected that day, but the situation will change dramatically over the next few days.
