Prepare for Showery and Stormy Weather in Bavaria - With Scattered Sunshine

Severe weather hits The Free State: Thunderstorms, lightning, and occasional sunshine reported - Stormy rainfall and thunderstorms expected in the Free State, with a hint of sunlight here and there.

Heads up, folks! The weather forecast for Bavaria doesn't look too rosy this week. Starting as early as Sunday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms are on their way from the west, as per the German Weather Service (DWD). Keep an eye out for hailstorms with golf ball-sized hail and gusting winds, accompanied by heavy downpours. With all this, emergency services in Franconia have already been busy dealing with fallen trees, flooded streets, and submerged basements in the afternoon and evening.

The DWD advises caution, particularly in Lower Franconia, Upper Franconia, Middle Franconia, Swabia, Upper Palatinate, and Upper Bavaria, where severe thunderstorms are likely. A spokesperson from the Upper Franconia Police Presidium reported multiple incidents, such as a sports hall in Trebgast (Kulmbach district) being damaged by the storm. So far, there haven't been any reported injuries, but the Upper Franconia Police Presidium has been busy responding to a multitude of calls.

Initially, the presidencies in Lower and Middle Franconia reported minimal incidents, and the A6 was flooded but quickly reopened in Middle Franconia. However, things might escalate in the Upper Palatinate, Upper Bavaria, and Swabia, where no weather-related incidents have been reported as yet.

The start of the week is not looking too good for ice cream lovers: mainly overcast skies await us. The DWD predicts showers and thunderstorms to persist. Although there's a glimmer of hope for some sunlight in the second half of the day in Lower Franconia, high temperatures will hover between 19°C to 24°C.

Tuesday will start sunny, but don't let your guard down: rain and individual thunderstorms will make an appearance soon. Wednesday will follow suit, with sunny spells giving way to widespread showers and thunderstorms, especially in the south. High temperatures will vary between 20°C to 27°C.
