In the early hours of Tuesday, September 9, the municipality of Rommerskirchen experienced a series of deployments aimed at managing the aftermath of persistent rain and flooding caused by storms. The Dormagen Fire Department was called upon 15 times between 9:30 PM on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday, with the operations concluding around 1:30 AM.

The underpass at Zonser Straße was one of the sites where deployment forces were required. Other affected areas included Dormagen-Mitte, Horrem, and Zons. Two local sports halls, the TSV Bayer Dormagen at An der Römerziegelei and the Rachel-Carson-School on Bahnhofstraße, were also impacted by flooding.

A large supermarket was also among the structures affected, necessitating the deployment of emergency forces. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the deployments.

Inter-municipal cooperation played a significant role in the response efforts, with the unit Gohr supporting multiple deployment sites within the Rommerskirchen municipality. The units Stadtmitte, Zons, Delhoven, Stürzelberg, and the full-time watch also participated in the operations.

The German Weather Service had predicted rainfall of between 35 and 60 litres per square meter within six hours until 11 AM on Tuesday morning. Locally, stored thunderstorms or heavy showers could reach up to 90 litres per square meter.

By Tuesday morning, all deployment operations had been completed, with a total of 66 deployment forces returning to their stations. The city of Dormagen and its surrounding areas now focus on recovery and rebuilding in the aftermath of the storm.
