Storm 'Joshua' Brings First Autumn Chill to Upper Harz

The Upper Harz region braces for a significant weather change this week, as low-pressure system 'Joshua' brings the first true autumn storm. Temperature will dip, and winds will pick up, with gusts reaching up to 80 km/h (50 mph) on Friday.

The storm, expected to cool down the region between the Harz Mountains and the Lüneburger Heide, will bring occasional showers and windy conditions. On Thursday, temperature will range from 8 to 17°C, with periods of heavier rain and wind speeds up to 55 km/h (34 mph).

Friday will see the storm strengthen, with gusts up to 75 km/h (47 mph) and temperature between 9 and 11°C. The wind will gradually ease on Saturday, dropping to 45 km/h (28 mph) by evening. However, in the Upper Harz, wind gusts could reach 80 km/h (50 mph) on Friday. By Sunday, temperature will plummet to between 1 and 5°C, with a high likelihood of snow in the Upper Harz.

While the storm will bring cooler temperature and windy conditions, longer dry and sunny periods are not expected. The region should prepare for a chilly weekend, with snow possible in the Upper Harz.
