Lübeck and Ostholstein: Vehicle Damage and Few Injuries - Storm Elli batters northern Germany with snow and high winds

Storm Elli swept through northern Germany on Friday, bringing chaos to Lübeck and Ostholstein. High winds and heavy snow led to at least ten traffic accidents and nine emergency calls. Authorities responded quickly as conditions worsened throughout the day.

The storm’s impact was felt most strongly in Ostholstein, where police received multiple reports of snowdrifts blocking roads. On Fehmarn, one driver found their car trapped in a deep snowbank, requiring assistance to clear the way. Across the region, emergency services dealt with a mix of collisions and stranded vehicles.

Only three incidents resulted in minor injuries, all within Ostholstein. The remaining cases involved property damage, from dented cars to downed branches. Chief Police Commissioner Carsten Schütt oversaw the response, coordinating teams as they handled the fallout from the storm’s fierce winds and snow. By the end of the day, crews had addressed all reported emergencies. Despite the disruption, no serious injuries were recorded, and roads were gradually reopened as conditions eased.

Storm Elli left behind a trail of minor damage and disrupted travel in northern Germany. Emergency services managed the situation without major incidents, though repairs and clean-up efforts continued into the weekend. The storm served as a reminder of winter’s unpredictable hazards in Germany.
