Brace yourself, Germany! June starts off turbulent, especially in certain parts of the country. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued a stern warning about severe weather, including thunderstorms, storms, and rainfall in their latest forecast.

The chilly front of a low-pressure system hovering west of Norway is making its slow way south-east. Though it brings slightly milder air to us, parts of the south remain warm and humid. The south, along with Saxony, can expect thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon, potentially dumping up to 15 liters per square meter in an hour.

Hail, strong winds, and gusts predicted

As the day progresses, the DWD anticipates a series of significant thunderstorms in the south, sections of the east, and the southern center. Be prepared for heavy rainfall amounts of up to 20 liters per square meter in a short time, small hail, and gusts reaching 70 km/h (Bft 8 to 9). In the extreme south, heavy rainfall of up to 30 liters per square meter, larger hail, and gusts as high as 80 km/h (Bft 9) are apparently not out of the question. The north will also experience short thunderstorms with small hail and winds of up to 65 km/h (Bft 8).

The remainder of the country will mostly be cloudy, interspersed with individual showers and thunderstorms in the east and north. Otherwise, it's expected to be dry. The northwest regions will top out at temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees, while the rest of the country will see temperatures ranging from 21 to 24 degrees. Light to moderate west to northwest wind will prevail.
