Man from Mannheim won't get stolen car back for now - Stolen car recovered in Dortmund—yet owner must surrender it again

A man from Mannheim has tracked down his stolen car to a dealer in Dortmund—only to be forced to hand it back. The vehicle, worth €12,000, was taken during a family trip to Romania. Now, a legal battle is unfolding over who rightfully owns it. The car was stolen while the Mannheim resident was visiting relatives in Romania. A prospective buyer had taken it for a test drive but never returned. Using GPS tracking, the owner located the vehicle at a Dortmund dealership and retrieved it with a spare key. For now, the car remains with the Dortmund buyer. The Mannheim man must wait for a court ruling before he can regain possession. The BGH’s decision will settle the dispute over ownership once and for all.
