Berlin − A Buzzer Beater Frenzy in the NOFV North League has sent Preussen BFC to the Regionalliga Nordost, while Eintracht Mahlsdorf finds itself questioning the referee's decision. As videos surfaced, doubts deepened - did the ball truly enter the net?
The footage supports these doubts, with both the host's livestream and a video from RBB showing Stein's shot hitting the underside of the bar and seemingly bouncing out of the goal.Recalling the historic Wembley goal in 1966, memories emerge.
A trend soon develops online as a slow-motion video surfaces, suggesting that the ball missed the goal from the filmmaker's perspective.
Referee Marcel Riemer (39) awards the goal following a quick indication from assistant Tim Gerstenberg (24) who was far from the action. Supporters storm the pitch in celebration just 15 seconds later.
Protesting in the current situation? Fruitless, as the game wouldn't be restarted, and no video assistant is present in the fifth league.
Heated discussions persist, with Mahlsdorf coach Karsten Heine (70) asserting that there are sufficient images supporting the claim that the ball didn't pass the line.
The decisive moment that could have altered Mahlsdorf's promotion!
Although asserting his doubts, Heine shows sportsmanship by congratulating Preussen's coach, Daniel Volbert (52), and later, his players douse their coach in celebration.
Despite the ongoing controversy, BFC Preussen clinched their first-ever Regionalliga promotion on Saturday evening, while Mahlsdorf's season finale ended in bitter disappointment.
