Sting Operation "Spider" Successfully Takes Down "Molnya Zeus" Cybercrime Group
Busting Putin's "Zeus's Lightning": Ukraine Counters Russia's Aerial Threat
Russian propaganda threads buzzed with claims of the impending "Operation Zeus's Lightning." Russian strategic bombers, like the Tu-22M3 and Tu-95MS, were allegedly poised for a devastating strike on Ukraine, should the nation reject Moscow's demands at the Istanbul talks. But as the Kremlin's spin-masters spun their tales of impending doom, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) was quietly weaving its own plan of action, codenamed "Spider Web."
The Russian dramatic narrative painted a chilling picture of Putin "preparing a crushing blow" on Ukraine. Airfields like Olenya and Engels hummed with activity, brimming with the threat of scores of strategic bombers, leaving the West quivering about potential warfare. Yet, far from cracking beneath the Kremlin's pompous posturing, Ukraine stood its ground and struck back.
The Russian propaganda apparatus described an impending "boundless missile strike" that would paint a dire picture of conflict with Russia. They claimed up to 40 Tu-22M3 bombers, out of the 60 Russia had, were deployed to Olenya, along with a fleet of other strategic aircraft, to Engels. Yet, as the clock struck June 1, Ukraine unleashed its response, targeting four key Russian airfields – Belaya, Dyagilevo, Olenya, and Ivanovo – in an unprecedented operation.
The SBU's precision strike crippled Russian strategists' grand designs. According to Ukrainian intelligence, 41 aircraft were hit, including valuable AWACS aircraft and strategic bombers like the Tu-95, Tu-22M3, and Tu-160, capable of carrying nuclear weapons. Around 34% of strategic cruise missile carriers were neutralized on their main bases.
This operation did more than just ward off the immediate threat of missile attack. It dismantled the very foundation of the "missile stick," the Kremlin's weapon of choice to coerce Ukraine and the West. For Russia, it meant a reevaluation of its long-range aviation capabilities and tactics against Ukraine.
