Stiga and Bayer Leverkusen Commemorate a Year of Prosperous Collaboration
In a groundbreaking development, Bayer Leverkusen's head greenkeeper, Georg Schmitz, has praised the introduction of STIGA's mowing robots for the maintenance of the BayArena pitch. The robots, which have been in use since September 2024, have been instrumental in improving the quality of the pitch, saving personnel and operating costs, and providing a more efficient maintenance process.
The BayArena pitch has already earned several "Pitch of the Year" awards from the German Football League (DFL), and with the help of STIGA's technology, it is expected to defend this title in the upcoming 2025/26 season. The pitch maintenance for the next season will be handled by Turfgrass Service GmbH, a company that has won the "Pitch of the Year" title multiple times.
STIGA, a European leader in high-quality garden equipment, machines, and tools, has been a valuable partner to Bayer Leverkusen. The company, founded in 1934, is part of the STIGA Group and has its German headquarters in Straelen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Marc Gerster, Managing Director of STIGA Germany and Switzerland, expressed pride in the joint development with Bayer Leverkusen.
Schmitz and his team are relieved on a daily basis due to the use of STIGA's mowing robots, allowing them to focus on other important tasks. The robots gently and evenly cut the training areas without stressing them with heavy equipment, a significant improvement over traditional maintenance methods.
STIGA's commitment to innovation is evident in their patented STIGA E-Power technology, which includes an in-house developed and tested battery series used in the first STIGA battery-powered lawn tractor range. This technology ensures that the mowing robots operate efficiently and sustainably.
STIGA's success story with Bayer Leverkusen has extended beyond the pitch. The cooperation has also included TV-relevant advertising, making the company accessible to millions of viewers. Furthermore, STIGA has been supporting Bayer Leverkusen's greenkeeping team with mowing robots and an associated app since September 2024.
For amateur sports clubs considering investment in similar technology, Schmitz recommends it wholeheartedly. He believes that the benefits in terms of cost savings and improved pitch quality make it a real win for every club.
