Steve McCurry's 'The Haunted Eye' Opens in Istanbul
Famous photographer Steve McCurry has opened his latest exhibition, 'The Haunted Eye', in Istanbul. The world premiere event is part of the Türkiye Cultural Festival Route and will run until November 30 at the Tophane-i Amire Culture and Arts Center.
McCurry, known for his iconic 1985 National Geographic cover portrait 'Afghan Girl', has curated 25 career-defining photographs for this exhibition, including that famous image. Additionally, 160 works are being exhibited for the first time. The exhibition is organized by 212 Photography Istanbul with the support of the Culture and Tourism Ministry.
McCurry's relationship with Istanbul spans decades. He first visited in 1970 and has returned many times for assignments. Selim Terzi, director general of Living Heritage and Cultural Events at the ministry, emphasized the importance of hosting McCurry's exhibition as part of the festival. McCurry himself praised curator Anne Morin for her vision in organizing the exhibition and expressed gratitude to the Turkish people for their hospitality.
