Steve Dinneen wins Features Writer of the Year for bold storytelling

Steve Dinneen, magazine editor at City AM, has won Features Writer of the Year at the Regional Press Awards. The judges described his work as 'lively, imaginative, and distinctive', setting it apart in modern journalism. Dinneen has spent over 16 years at the paper, shaping its Life&Style section and editing The Magazine.

Dinneen's award follows a series of bold and original features. His investigations included tracking down an AI-generated pitch author in Nairobi and staying at the world's most expensive retirement home. He also attempted a world record for eating the hottest chillies, showcasing his willingness to take on unusual challenges.

*The Magazine*, edited by Dinneen, was also shortlisted for Supplement of the Year. The publication is approaching its 90th issue, though no editions have appeared under his name as of March 2026. Other winners at the Regional Press Awards included Aoife Moore, Sam McBride, and Ben Roberts-Haslam. The *Birmingham Mail* also received recognition among the night's honourees.
