Steve Carell leads Rooster, a sharp new college comedy coming to HBO Max in 2026
A new college campus comedy, Rooster, is coming to screens next year. Created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, the series stars Steve Carell as Greg Russo, a famous author dealing with a tricky relationship with his professor daughter. The show will begin airing on HBO Max in the US on March 8, 2026, with a German release the following day on HBO Max.
The series draws inspiration from the real-life works of author Greg Russo. Alongside Carell, the cast includes Charly Clive as his daughter Katie, as well as Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, Lauren Tsai, Annie Mumolo, and Maximo Salas. Only Season 1, consisting of 10 episodes, has been confirmed so far.
New episodes will drop weekly, every Sunday at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The first trailer is already available on HBO Max's official website. Fans of Bill Lawrence's previous projects or Steve Carell's comedic roles may find this HBO Max series particularly appealing, according to a review by Decider.
HBO Max offers multiple subscription options for viewers. Plans start at $10.99 per month with ads or $18.49 per month without. Alternatively, discounted Disney+ bundles—including Hulu and HBO Max—are available from $19.99 per month (with ads) or $32.99 per month (ad-free).
The first season of Rooster will launch on March 8, 2026, on HBO Max in the US, followed by HBO Max in Germany the next day. With a mix of established stars and fresh talent, the show aims to deliver a sharp, character-driven comedy. Weekly episodes will keep audiences engaged throughout the season on HBO Max.
