The results of the survey placed "The Shining" (1980) at the top of the list. Starring Jack Nicholson in an iconic role, this Stanley Kubrick-directed film remains a favourite among critics and audiences alike. Despite Stephen King's initial dissatisfaction with the adaptation, its enduring appeal is undeniable.

"The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), adapted from King's novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption," came in second place. This Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman-starrer is the second-ranked Stephen King adaptation according to German critics.

"Carrie" (1976), directed by Brian De Palma, took the third spot. This chilling adaptation of King's debut novel has solidified its place as a horror classic.

"Misery" (1990) ranked fourth, with Kathy Bates's memorable portrayal of Annie Wilkes earning her an Academy Award for Best Actress.
