In a thrilling finale at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, the dynamic multi-event athlete, Till Steinforth, secured Germany's coveted first medal in the heptathlon. Despite a tough final 1000-meter run, he clinched the bronze with a score of 6275 points.

The 22-year-old US-based sports star, representing SV Halle, narrowly missed out on the top spot, trailing behind Norway's Sander Skotheim (6475) and Estonia's Johannes Erm (6437). However, his impressive bronze performance at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, scoring 6388 points, albeit behind Skotheim and Switzerland's Simon Ehammer, demonstrates his potential in the multi-event arena. Ehammer was absent in Nanjing.

Showcasing a steady improvement in the 60-meter hurdles (7.85 seconds) and a strong pole vault performance (5.20 meters), Steinforth secured his medal position. Although he stumbled in the 1000-meter run, finishing last and nine seconds slower than in Apeldoorn, he maintained a lead over Heath Baldwin (USA/6188). Tim Nowak (Ulm) ended up in seventh place with 5935 points.

The World Indoor Championship medals for German heptathletes are a rare achievement, with Andre Niklaus (gold in 2006) and Matthias Brugger (bronze in 2014) being the notable exceptions.

In the women's high jump, Imke Onnen finished sixth with a jump of 1.92 meters, behind Australia's Nicola Olyslagers (1.97). The world record holder Yaraslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine) surprisingly finished third with 1.95 meters. In the long jump, with Claire Bryant (USA) soaring to victory with 6.95 meters, Malaika Mihambo was not present. Jakob Ingebrigtsen snatched the 1500-meter title, making history as the first man to achieve a double in both the European and World Championships after his victory in the 3000 meters.
