The Lower Rhine region was abuzz with excitement on Sunday, July 6, 2025, as the 2nd Raderlebnistag Niederrhein took place. This popular family-oriented cycling event, organised by Niederrhein Tourismus (NT), welcomed cyclists of all ages to explore the diverse landscapes and communities of the region.

The event, which attracted an estimated 34,000 cyclists last year, is a successor to the Niederrheinischer Radwandertag. This year, over 100 routes of varying lengths were offered, with a strengthened digital focus to facilitate a smoother experience for participants.

The day began with Mayor Christian Pakusch giving the starting signal at the Heimatmuseum "Kamps Pitter" in Willich. Cyclists then embarked on their journeys, following well-marked routes that led them through picturesque villages and towns, offering a unique blend of culture and nature.

An information point was set up in Viersen at Alter Markt Dülken, by the fountain, staffed by the city management team to assist visitors with directions, event details, and local highlights. This cross-border event allowed cyclists to enjoy scenic rides that connected communities on both the German and Dutch sides of the Niederrhein area.

Throughout the day, numerous municipalities hosted special activities, refreshments, and cultural programs to enrich the cycling experience. For instance, the JSV Alpen 1680 e.V. invited families to join festivities, showcasing the community spirit during the event.

The event was not just about cycling but also about enjoying the Lower Rhine region's hospitality, traditions, and local offerings. In Schiefbahn, cyclists could receive a drink of Willich Pils and visit a small exhibition about Willich's brewing history by presenting their handlebar hangers at the Brauerei Willich Pils. Meanwhile, at the info point "Heimatmuseum Kamps Pitter" in Willich, a hat concert with singer Gwenjolie took place.

The water tower Fellerhöfe in Willich was exceptionally open from 11 am to 3 pm during the event, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the region's industrial past. Five of the routes passed through Willich: routes 50, 56, 58, 71, and 80.

The Raderlebnistag Niederrhein, a notable highlight of the region's summer calendar, promotes active tourism and cross-border cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands. As the sun set on this memorable day, participants returned home with cherished memories of their cycling adventure in the Lower Rhine region.

For those who missed out, fear not! The online raffle for attractive prizes is still available during the Raderlebnistag Niederrhein. Simply scan the QR codes at the info points along the routes to register for the raffle.
