Get ready to immerse yourself in a madcap world of steampunk proportions! This year's Bad Hersfeld Festival gives the finger to traditional elbow-rubbing affairs by throwing a wild, erotic, and hilariously absurd party with a liberating twist on William Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Joern Hinkel, the festival's outgoing artistic director, has announced plans to whip up a laugh-out-loud spectacle for audiences craving lighter fare amidst these dark times. Aside from Shakespeare's comedic masterpiece, an ensemble of characters from other works like Romeo and Juliet are set to crash the nighttime forest stage in this over-the-top extravaganza, leaving no stone unturned.

The production, based on Shakespearean themes, features an eclectic cast of top-tier talent, such as TV detective Erol Sander ("Mordkommission Istanbul"), Anouschka Renzi, Bettina Hauenschild, Christian Nickel, and Helena Sigal, among others.

Shaking up the status quo, for the very first time this year, the large orchestra will not only accompany one of the festival's annual musicals but also a stage play. The music for "Midsummer Dreams" will be composed specifically for the production, promising edgy and modern beats that'll make you dance your butt off.

Hinkel, no stranger to stirring the pot, is onboard to direct this bold and outrageous endeavor. According to the head honcho, revellers can expect a Hersfeld Midsummer Night teeming with wild, raunchy love stories and zany slapstick humor.

As the action unfolds at a steam-powered, Victorian royal court in the late 19th century, the characters' navigational dilemmas and amorous entanglements will be a spectacle to behold. The haute couture on display will mirror the steampunk ethos, boasting Victorian opulence mixed with brass-knuckle technology, think aviator goggles, pocket watches, and leather corsets.

Audiences can expect a riotous, feet-stomping good time for the premiere on June 20th.

Overflowing with tradition and ingenuity, Bad Hersfeld festivities have long drawn more than 100,000 people each year. The 74th edition will run from June 20th to August 18th, with Schiller's drama "The Robbers" featuring music by Die Toten Hosen among other notable performances.

Last year’s sensational hits like the Broadway musical “A Chorus Line” and the play “Like in Heaven” will reappear. As a family-friendly offering, the festival presents Astrid Lindgren's classic "Pippi Longstocking" on stage.

Prepare to lose your minds and sweat your butts off at this year’s unbridled, unforgettable Bad Hersfeld Festival!
