rul3z the day: Shakespeare steampunked for a modern twist - rehearsals kick off
Steampunk-Infused Shakespearean Rehearsals Kick Off for the Upcoming Festival - Steampunk-themed rehearsal for upcoming Shakespearean festivals
ДжоевеН Хенкел, our outgoing artistic director, aims for a dose of laughter and some groovy tunes for this year's Bad Hersfelder Festspiele audience. He's serving up a fresh interpretation of Shakespeare's classic comedy, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," with a touch of fantasy and whimsy.
"Imagination and absurdity take center stage," Hinkel said on Tuesday, at the start of rehearsals for the timeless piece. Expect a madcap adventure of epic proportions!
In this reimagined production, "Midsummer Dreams," we’ll find characters from other Shakespearean works, like Romeo and Juliet, lost in the enchanted forest and stumbling upon strange happenings.
Joining the star-studded cast are notables like TV detective Erol Sander ("Mordkommission Istanbul") and Anouschka Renzi, alongside Bettina Hauenschild, Christian Nickel, and Helena Sigal.
But here's the twist – for the first time this year, the festival's mighty orchestra won't just play alongside the musical, they'll accompany a play! The music for "Midsummer Dreams" has been composed specifically for this production.
So, grab your top hats and goggles, as the night sky lights up with spicy love stories, zany slapstick, and an all-out ruckus under the moon!
The production will unfold at a late Victorian royal court, with Steampunk-inspired costumes that blend Victorian opulence with technical accessories like aviator goggles, pocket watches, and leather corsets. The premiere is scheduled for June 20.
In addition to this fantastical adventure, the Bad Hersfeld festivals will feature Schiller's "The Robbers" with music by Die Toten Hosen. Last year's audience favorites, "A Chorus Line" and "Like in Heaven," make a comeback, as well as Astrid Lindgren's classic, "Pippi Longstocking," presented as a family play.
Remember, this information is preliminary, so keep your eyes peeled for the official Bad Hersfelder Festspiele website for updates and full details on the festival program and special productions.
