Outgoing artistic director, Joern Hinkel, has big plans for this year's festivities. He aims to bring a light-hearted touch and lots of music to the audience with his new interpretation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". This popular comedy by the Bard himself serves as the foundation for a fantastical journey that promises to transport audiences to otherworldly realms.
As Hinkel started the rehearsals, he shared his vision for the production. In this version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", titled "Midsummer Dreams", characters from other Shakespeare works like Romeo and Juliet will find themselves lost in a Nighttime forest and encountering unexpected surprises.
echoing the forest's enchanting atmosphere, an eclectic cast is set to take the stage. TV detective Erol Sander ("Mordkommission Istanbul"), Anouschka Renzi, Bettina Hauenschild, Christian Nickel, and Helena Sigal, among others, will breath life into these timeless stories.
For the first time, a large orchestra will not only accompany one of the musicals but will also provide music for a play. The music for "Midsummer Dreams" will be specially composed for this production.
Get ready for a rollercoaster of wild love stories, slapstick humor, and Steampunk style-complete with Victorian opulence and gadgets such as aviator goggles, pocket watches, and leather corsets! The show premieres on June 20th.
Apart from "Midsummer Dreams", the Bad Hersfeld festivals have a packed schedule filled with other performances, including Schiller's "The Robbers" with music by Die Toten Hosen. Last year's favourites, "A Chorus Line" and "Wie im Himmel" return to the stage, while Astrid Lindgren's classic "Ronja the Robber's Daughter" is brought to life as a family production.
